First go to factfinder.census.gov. The site should look something like this.

There is a vertical menu on the left. Run your mouse over the DATA SETS button and click the top link on the drop out menu, DECENNIAL CENSUS. Or just click here.

There are two tabs at the top of the site (not visible here) to CENSUS 2000 and 1990 CENSUS. You are automatically sent to CENSUS 2000. You will see a long list of data groups with names like "Census 2000 Summary File 1 (SF 1) 100-Percent Data". We are only itnerested in the first 4. These are Summary Files 1 - 4.

The top two, Summary File 1 and 2, are based on the short form and are therefore 100-Percent Data. Summary File 1 includes questions from the short form broken down by 7 basic racial/ethnic groups. Summary File 2 includes a somewhat more limited collection of questions, but they can be broken down by researchers into any of 249 ethnic, racial, and ancestry groups.

The next two are Summary Files 3 and 4. They are from the American Community Survey (the long form). Again, the latter allows researchers to break the results down by very detailed ethnic, racial, and ancestry groups.
